Since they began to shoot truly cult films and TV shows, the so-called film tourism has been gaining momentum in filming locations. After all, of course, I want to see with my own eyes where they filmed the “Game of Thrones” or “Wednesday”. And this is just the case when tourists will not be disappointed – live these places are not only not worse, but a hundred times better than they were shown on the screen.
Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco – “Game of Thrones”
The Moroccan walled city for filming turned into the fictional city of Yunkai. But in the series, alas, we were not shown all the beauties of the desert.
Cantacuzino Castle, Busteni, Romania – “Wednesday”
Of course, for greater gloom, the castle was slightly “enhanced” with the help of computer graphics – the academy for young rebels could not do without gothic attributes like a crooked tree in the courtyard. But live Cantacuzino castle is no less beautiful.
Caerphilly Castle, Wales – “Doctor Who”
Several episodes of the series were filmed in the castle, for example, Vampires of Venice, but not all of the beauty was captured in the frame. And by the way, both the castle and the area around it are amazing.
Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco – “Clone”
The magnificent adobe city became the backdrop for Zhadi’s love story.
Øresund Bridge, the border of Denmark and Sweden – “Bridge”
According to the plot, 2 policemen are investigating a crime that happened right on the bridge, and constantly cross it to get either to Denmark or to Sweden.
Fort Macomb, Louisiana – “True Detective”
In the Season 1 finale, Matthew McConaughey wanders through the catacombs, trying to overtake the criminal. The episode was filmed in a historical place – a fort built in the 19th century. There are indeed catacombs there, but certainly not as sinister as in the series.
Angkor, Cambodia – “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”
The adventures of the brave Lara took place on the territory of the ruins of the temple complex in Cambodia. Not surprisingly, after the filming of the film, the place attracted crowds of tourists.
Tunisia – “Star Wars”
The famous planet Tatooine, a cult place for all fans of the space saga, not only “located” during the filming in Tunisia, but even got its name from the Tunisian town of Tatavin. We filmed landscapes in several places.
Dominica – “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”
Most of the scenes in the film were filmed on the picturesque island of Dominica – in particular, the scene where Jack flees from the crowd of islanders.
Inishmore and Achill Islands, Ireland – “Banshee of Inisherina”
Landscapes are one of the best parts of this gloomy film with Colin Farrell. The harsh nature of the Irish islands is amazing, even when you look at it through the screen. Just imagine how chic it is to live there! Inisherin is a fictional place, but the film was shot in a very real place, on 2 islands – Inishmore and Achill.
